Another Epic Palestinian Victory!

First, the Palestinian national movement came for Israeli children. But I did not care, because they were only Jews, and Israel had provoked the Palestinians into killing them anyway.
Then, the Palestinian national movement came for Palestinian Christians, but I did not care, because only right-wing backwoods yahoos care about what happens to Christians, and if pressed I could always blame it on Israel.
Then, the Palestinian national movement came for its own, but I did not care, because an oppressed people is entitled to do whatever it wants, and besides the victims were only a bunch of Arabs.
But now, the Palestinian national movement is coming after its own Western admirers, like Vittorio Arrigoni (aka tourists in other people's suffering, who pick their causes seemingly at random), and that will never do. Unless of course, I can find a way to blame it on Israel.

Queen Qaddafi?

"Colonel Qaddafi’s son, Seif al-Islam, promised in a television interview to usher in a new era of constitutional democracy in which his father would be a mere figurehead 'like the queen of England.'"--The New York Times

Desecration of God's Name

We here in Chelm are really very simple souls, so it is difficult for us to understand why some idiot in Florida would burn a Koran and why some Muslims living on the other side of the world in Afghanistan would decide that the appropriate response to this is to lynch UN aid workers.

There is a Hebrew phrase that neatly covers both acts--hillul hashem, the desecration of God's name. Though it seems to us that unprovoked murder of human beings created in God's image is a worse desecration even than burning a book with God's name in it.
